Born in 1921, Erik Kolling Andersen originally trained as a carpenter. He would go on to take night classes in architecture whilst working for some of Denmark’s most renowned modern architects, including Arne Jacobsen and Finn Juhl. During this time, Andersen gained an interest in furniture design and went on to produce some of the most beautiful pieces in the Danish modern movement.
Many of Andersen's best known designs were built with master cabinetmaker Peder Pedersen, with whom he collaborated on some of his most famous designs, including the Prism Chair from 1953.
